Coaching  for Actors

Good acting is hard to define but when it's there, you know it, whether you are the actor at work or a member of an audience watching a performance. There's an authentic experiential aliveness in both the "being" and the "doing" of the actor that communicates the heart, body, soul, mind and spirit of a human being in action. It's not easy to do but as Shakespeare said, " 'tis a consummation devoutly to be wished."

APPROACH

I create a supportive, non-threatening, environment that is professional, rigorous and artistically challenging, and in the belief that hard work and enjoyment are not mutually exclusive.

PRIVATE COACHING FOR PROFESSIONAL ACTORS

Coaching addresses an actor's specific needs in an intimate, supportive and intensive  environment.  I work privately with clients of all levels, the only requirement is passion for the work and a commitment to one’s learning and growth. Working together, we form a clear plan of how best to fulfill your goals, whether audition monologues or scenes, a role you’ve been cast in, or a series of sessions to strengthen your technique.

I work with people who have diverse training backgrounds while at the same time, bringing in a fusion of the Stanislavsky and Michael Chekhov psychophysical methods that I use, to broaden clients' options and expand their range.

COACHING FOR PERFORMING ARTS HIGH SCHOOL AUDITIONS

The schools require students to prepare, memorize and perform two (2) contrasting one-minute monologues. The goal in early coaching sessions is to discover a student's unique voice, presence and abilities to aid in finding the "close-to-self" monologues that s/he can embody with a sense of truth, authenticity and simplicity. Subsequent sessions focus on building a strong connection between the student actor and the character, rehearsals and refining, and developing audition etiquette.

COACHING FOR CONSERVATORY + UNIVERSITY AUDITIONS

These sessions address the student's specific needs in an intimate, supportive and intensive environment. If you are still looking for monologues, our early sessions can be geared towards helping you find the ones that will show your unique voice, presence and abilities – those you best connect with authentically, simply and powerfully. Once monologues have been chosen, the work is aimed at developing strong authentic connections to character, text and style. Subsequent sessions are for refining, interview techniques and audition etiquette.
